"17 deputies from the LDPR party today arrived at the regional branch of the LDPR political party in the Khabarovsk Territory and sent a statement on leaving the LDPR party," - Mikhail Sidorov told Interfax.
The speaker of the Khabarovsk City Duma assured that the parliamentarians' withdrawal from the party would not affect the work of the Duma, and promised that "working relations will be maintained with the authorities at all levels." “We are not in any way going to any confrontation with the executive authorities of either the city or the Khabarovsk Territory. <…> The only thing is that the deputies who quit the party, they will not obey the LDPR faction and the tasks that the faction sets out. There are 35 deputies in the Khabarovsk City Duma. According to the results of the 2019 elections, 34 candidates from the Liberal Democratic Party and one from Fair Russia were elected to parliament. In 2018, the election of the governor in the Khabarovsk Territory was won by the LDPR candidate Sergey Furgal. On July 9, 2020, Furgal was detained in Khabarovsk on charges of organizing murders and assassination attempts. His arrest was extended until December 9, 2020. After the arrest of Sergei Furgal, protests by those dissatisfied with the persecution of the ex-governor have continued since July.
The interim governor of the region is Mikhail Degtyarev, a former State Duma deputy from the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia.
