British scientists have found a correlation between a thin waist and a woman's personality characteristics. Reported by the Daily Mail.
It turned out that the healthiest and most successful women are most often the owners of a slender figure. “The narrow waist symbolizes wealth, success and self-control. It is not so easy to maintain a fit body throughout life, and for women who have given birth, it is an admirable achievement. For many, it is a lot of sacrifice and hard work,”explained Jane Ogden, professor of health psychology at the University of Surrey.
Ogden added that while curvy is back in vogue, everyone is still aiming for a Hollywood, almost cartoonish, extremely thin waist like Kim Kardashian.
“This indicates good wealth. It's comical that earlier, because of hunger, only the poorest were thin, and the rich were fat. And now thinness speaks of the availability of time and money for a personal trainer,”agreed plastic surgeon at Houellebecq Hospital in London, Miles Berry.
In October, British eating disorder charity Beat denounced fashion brand Topshop for being too skinny in a promotional photo. “The idealization of thinness, which is constantly observed in the fashion industry, only exacerbates the situation. Producers need to respect people with different shapes,”urged Beat's director of public relations, Rebecca Field.
