The results of the New Year holidays are being summed up at the operational headquarters to combat the spread of coronavirus. Another anti-record was recorded in the region: during the day, another 230 residents of the region were diagnosed with a dangerous disease.

The same sharp increase in the infection of citizens was noted about two weeks after the May weekend. The Rospotrebnadzor department claims that mid-January is the time to reap the benefits of corporate events and other festive celebrations.

“A tense situation with coronavirus infection remains on the territory of the Penza region. Any mass events should be canceled, since refusal to hold them is an important component of preventing and countering the spread of coronavirus infection,”said Vera Bykova, press secretary of the Penza Region Rospotrebnadzor Office. It is not worth hoping that the virus weakens as it passes from person to person. Moreover, such interactions sometimes lead to the emergence of new strains, which most likely happened in the UK.

“Why did the virus mutate (change)? In all likelihood, he somehow encountered another infection. But we can only assume this,”said Minister of Health Alexander Nikishin. Meanwhile, the total number of cases for the entire time of the pandemic in the region is approaching 30 thousand. Daily, the operational headquarters also updates the figures on the number of deaths. The disease has already claimed the lives of 352 Penza residents. Three more deaths were registered the day before.
