A fire that broke out on the night of November 6 in a private house in the village of Yelnya, Smolensk region, killed seven people, including five children. This is reported by TASS with reference to the emergency services of the region. Another adult was hospitalized with moderate burns. A criminal case was initiated on the fact of the incident. The causes of the tragedy are being established.

"Friday morning [November 6] a fire broke out in a private house in the Smolensk region in the city of Yelnya. Seven people died, including five children. Another adult has been hospitalized,” - told the agency in the emergency services of the region.

The press service of the head office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Smolensk region clarified that the fire in a private house occurred at about one in the morning. Two fire brigades went to extinguish it. Rescuers who arrived at the scene found a wooden house engulfed in flames. After the elimination of the fire, the bodies of the dead and one survivor were found in the house. The latter was hospitalized with moderate burns.

It is noted that there was a family of eight people in the house: children aged from one to 11 years old, the mother of the kids, the grandmother and the 27-year-old father of the family who managed to survive.

On the fact of the fire, the department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) in the Smolensk Region opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence to two or more persons). The department noted that the identities of all the victims have been established. The family was not registered in the system of preventive organs and was characterized positively. The causes of the tragedy will be established after the necessary examinations have been carried out.

In early June, in the Irkutsk region, four children and the father of the family were killed in a fire. The private house in which the family lived caught fire on the night of June 6. It housed four children aged from one to six years and their parents. Mother ran out into the street for help, but no one was saved. The woman was taken to the hospital with burns. The regional department of the TFR opened a criminal case.
