19-year-old Macey Duff from Nevada, USA, began removing unwanted hair at the age of ten. “When my hair was just starting to grow, I immediately took up the razor. I was afraid that someone would notice my armpits, legs, or bikini line, even if there was some subtle vegetation. I had big problems with self-acceptance,”shared the teenager. She added that she did not even allow the thought of stopping shaving, since all the women in her environment did this.
However, in 2016, the entire Duff family moved to Hawaii, where on Macy's Beach they saw a vacationer with dense black vegetation on her legs. Then, on social networks, the girl found many users posting photos with an unshaven body. All these women inspired Duff, and she decided to follow their example.
The girl admitted that at first she tried not to raise her hands in public because of the prejudices of society. However, she soon resigned herself to criticism and "sidelong glances" and, moreover, began to upload candid pictures on Instagram. The goal of her project is to prove to young girls that beauty and femininity do not depend on vegetation on their bodies or on the opinions of strangers.
At the moment, 11 thousand people are subscribed to Duff's account.
In January, members of the Januhairy movement ("Hairy January") massively gave up shaving and a month later shared photos of the result on the network. Many of them have posted pictures with unshaven armpits, belly and legs on social networks with the hashtag # Januhairy2020.
