Women massively refused to shave and shared photos of the result on the network. A new Facebook group called Januhairy ("Hairy January") got noticed in The Sun.
The idea of the community members is to grow body hair for a month. Many of them have shared pictures of unshaven armpits, belly and legs on social networks, signing them with the hashtag # Januhairy2020. Some of the posts went viral and garnered over 50,000 likes.
The trend was launched by 22-year-old University of Exeter graduate Laura Jackson.
“Unfortunately, society still has difficulty accepting vegetation on a woman’s body. People act as if this hair is unattractive and unpleasant."
- the girl is indignant.
The idea is borrowed from activists in the Movember movement, in which men grow mustaches every November and donate for a month to fight male diseases.
The trend was picked up by users of other social networks, including Instagram.
