There are two versions of how waterproof cosmetics appeared, but in both of them it was invented by women who were tired of the fact that mascara spreads at the most crucial moment.
The first goes like this: Elizabeth Arden, the founder of the cosmetics empire, was thinking about creating a waterproof mascara when makeup floated on the model during the brand's advertising campaign. The second credits the invention of waterproof mascara to Helena Rubinstein, another entrepreneur and founder of the cosmetic line, who released this product for the water theater troupe back in 1938.
In any case, a really high-quality product appeared on the market only in the 60s. It was then that Max Factor offered the world a waterproof mascara, the formula of which was radically different from the previous ones, contained less aggressive components and was as safe as possible for the face and eyes.
Today you can choose from a huge range of waterproof beauty products, including foundations, blush, lipstick, eye shadow and eyeliner.
The effect of water resistance appears due to fixing silicone polymers with high volatility, and the addition of natural, bee or mineral wax - paraffin, stearin. On contact with air, volatile compounds evaporate and the cosmetics are converted into a water-repellent wax film on the face. As a result, coloring agents, when applied correctly, do not interact with the environment, do not absorb the secretions of the sebaceous glands and remain on the skin in their original form. In production, of course, everything is much more complicated, and manufacturers do not reveal their secrets.
Personally, I have a very good attitude towards ultra-long-lasting cosmetics, as in some areas of my work, I can't go without it. Some of the waterproof products are used for important events such as weddings. Regular mascara and eyeshadow may not withstand the attacks of tears of joy. In addition, especially persistent cosmetics are needed for synchronized swimming competitions and other sporting events, dances. Almost all beauty products are waterproof, but my favorite is brow tint.
Apply waterproof mascara in the same way as you apply regular mascara. But for blush or foundation, I prefer using a synthetic brush. Everything must be done quickly, while the product is plastic.
And yet, do not forget that you should not walk with waterproof cosmetics every day, the skin must rest and breathe. Such products dry her a lot, so the feeling of tightness, for example, of the lips, is guaranteed to you. To remove waterproof makeup, you need strong two-phase makeup removers. Say, with their help, mascara is removed, but gently and accurately, you do not need to pull out your eyelashes. People with problem skin: acne, very dry, prone to allergies, it is better not to use waterproof cosmetics at all.
