New mom foundation is not just a way to improve complexion and make it smoother. For women who have little sleep, who have no time to eat, who often cannot find time for the usual ritual "cleansing-toning-moisturizing", tonal means are simply salvation.

As our expert assures, these funds can become salvation only when they are correctly selected and applied. Dermatologist, medical expert of the Vichy brand Elena Eliseeva gave the readers of Letidor some useful advice.

Tip 1: choose foundation according to your skin type

For normal and combination skins, it is better to choose products in the form of an emulsion or fluid - they are lighter and contain less oils (or better, if they do not contain at all). It is good if the composition contains matting components (for example, silicon), they will not allow the shine to appear. However, even for oily skin, it is important that there are not too many of them.

The fact is that the combination of a completely matte face and a natural-colored body looks very strange.

For dry or dehydrated skin, cream textures are suitable - they are more plastic and smoothly applied even to skin that is not very smooth due to a lack of lipids or moisture. In the composition, it is important to see not only nourishing oils, but also moisturizing additives. It’s good if it’s not just glycerin, but something more essential, such as hyaluronic acid.

While powder is most popular with combination to oily skin, professionals say its role is not just to tweak makeup throughout the day. First of all, dusting fixes the liquid foundation.

Powder should be kept in a cosmetic bag, regardless of skin type.

But make sure that the product does not have a drying effect (if you have dry skin, it is better to refuse powder marked “matting”, and choose a product suitable for all skin types).

The choice of foundation for sensitive skin often puzzles the girl even more, because the abundance of additives can provoke allergies. If the skin is reactive, then even a makeup product should be chosen at the pharmacy and make sure that the composition does not contain chemical dyes.

It is better if the foundation is made only on the basis of mineral pigments. But there is also a nuance here: very large particles can scratch delicate skin, so there should be no visible sparkles and crystals in the texture.

A product for sensitive skin must have an SPF (the sun is a very powerful irritant).

The presence of soothing ingredients (like thermal water) is an added benefit.

Mineral oils are also a frequent provocateur. So for delicate skin, it is better to choose a product based on water or, in extreme cases, a light silicone base.

A tube that is not labeled "hypoallergenic" or "suitable for sensitive skin" is also best left on the shelf.

Tip 2: keep an eye on the needs of your skin

Deciding whether to change the product depending on the season or not should be based on the needs of your skin. For example, medical camouflage designed to mask pronounced defects (for example, birthmarks that do not depend on the season) are used all year round.

Often, SPF filters are added to such dermatological products, allowing you to safely walk the streets in summer, and some camouflage products are also waterproof (so that you can swim in the sea or walk in the rain without hindrance, without risking scaring passers-by).

But the usual tonal creams sometimes have to be alternated.

In cold weather, make-up acts as a "clothing" and protection for the skin, so the dense texture is taken for granted.

In the summer, you intuitively want lightness and minimal coverage, so silicone winter bases become uncomfortable. In addition, dense care simply flows from heating (especially if the manufacturer has added oil to the composition) or becomes covered with original holes-pores under the influence of perspiration.

In the warm season, it is advisable to select water-based tonal fluids or BB-creams with SPF filters in the composition.

Tip 3: pay attention to the size and amount of reflective particles in your foundation

Many are afraid of products with reflective particles in the composition. But in vain. There is nothing wrong with reflective particles as long as they are few and far between.

Usually particles of mica or synthetic micropowder act as a "highlighter". Less common (but more expensive and better) is the "liquid light" technology, when reflective crystals dissolve in a medium, forming a liquid that looks like mercury. These hydrophilic ingredients give the skin a beautiful semi-matte glow and a very natural look.

Mica, especially coarsely and poorly ground, is always noticeable on the skin, as large particles lie in shining spots.

An attempt to shade this "splendor" better usually ends with micro-scratches and redness: a rock is still a rock. Therefore, mechanical reflectors should only be used on already ideal skin, where the “wet glow” does not look foreign.

On very dry skin, the radiance will favorably set off peeling and imperfections, on oily skin it will turn into an oily sheen.

If reflective particles are used to improve complexion and as a "cure" for fatigue, then antioxidants must be added to the tonal product or to the care applied before it, so that the skin tone itself becomes rosy and healthy. Cheerful sparkles on a sad gray background do not look very aesthetically pleasing.

Light liquid technology has no such limitations: light reflection does not come from spots, but from the entire surface of the skin, therefore it does not emphasize imperfections.

On aging skin, pigments give a blur effect, blurring and visually reducing the depth of wrinkles.

Tip 4: choose your shade carefully

Often, when we come to the store, we choose a foundation on our hand. However, this method has only one plus - it's quick and easy. There are many more disadvantages, and the biggest one is that almost no one has the same tone of hands and face. Therefore, do not be surprised that a cream that fits perfectly on the wrist looks like a mask on the face.

The correct shade should be tested at the border between the face and neck (in the area called the "lower jaw" in anatomy).

It is advisable that the cream is in harmony with the shade of the neck, otherwise the makeup line will be very noticeable.

Many manufacturers produce palettes of products for warm and cold skin tones, but few customers confidently attribute themselves to one or another color type. When in doubt, it is better to choose light textures that can adapt to skin tone.

Tip 5: choose the right "tool" for applying foundation

Any make-up artist knows several makeup techniques at once: brush, sponge, fingers.

At home, each girl chooses the most convenient option. Most often, the cheapest, most familiar and familiar instrument is used - fingers. They are always “at hand”, they are easy to wash and dry. However, it is impossible to achieve a thin coverage with the pads of your fingers and you can smudge the tone if it is applied over a corrector or concealer.

However, it is the fingers that are the best option for oily and problem skin, since the skin does not accumulate the remnants of tone (and microorganisms!) And is easily disinfected before makeup.

She brushes the most dense coating, and mainly girls - aces in the art of make-up resort to her services (inability to use a brush leads to the fact that the face is painted in the same way as a fence).

For beginners (or those who do not need a dense layer on their skin, but a barely noticeable veil) there is a duofiber brush (with a long synthetic and shorter natural bristles). It allows you to polish the skin to a state of perfect smoothness and fusion with the tone.

Sponges and beauty blenders allow you to get a tone of different density, depending on how many times you go over the skin with the instrument.

The main drawback of all makeup products is the harsh need to wash them regularly.

Tip 6: follow the foundation technique

Do not forget that even a foundation that contains antioxidants and hydro-fixing agents remains just a foundation. That is, a foundation is a make-up product, but not a panacea for all problems.

Therefore, even the best and most expensive tone requires a base in the form of a moisturizer or primer.

The morning ritual should look like this: first, basic care and 3-5 minutes (after the cream has been absorbed) - makeup. If you apply pigment on the remains of the leaving texture, then the makeup is guaranteed to cover with spots, forming dark streaks where moisture is preserved.

Mixing a foundation with a base cream to achieve a lighter texture is very careful and preferably not before an important event.

Such experiments should not be carried out with matting tonal products - most likely, the pigment will change color. But light vibes allow you to create your own palette.

How to apply foundation: move from the center of the face to the periphery, as if "smoothing" the hairs in the direction of their growth.

If you paint "against the grain", then the inconspicuous fluff, which is on the skin of all girls, will accentuate the pores, allowing the pigment to hide under the hairs.

On the periphery of the face, the coating should gradually fade away so as not to form a mask and border and naturally transition into the skin's own tone.
