A giant "ball" of blood vessels

In Zelenograd, a patient was cured with a rare pathology - a vascular "ball" that occupied up to 70 percent of the kidney volume.

A patient who suffered from hypertension for a long time was admitted to the therapeutic department of the Konchalovsky Hospital. A few months earlier, the woman began to experience uncontrolled rises in blood pressure. Doctors discovered a pathology - arteriovenous malformation of the right kidney. This congenital vascular anomaly is rare. It usually forms in the brain. Localization of the "ball" in the kidney has become a real boon for doctors.

Arteriovenous malformation is dangerous because it creates compression of the renal tissue, which leads to the death of the organ, explained the head of the vascular center of the clinic, Alexander Gritsanchuk.

“Also, because of this anomaly, uncontrolled hypertension develops, which in turn leads to the development of many other pathologies,” he said.

The situation was complicated by the fact that due to the tumor process more than 40 years ago, the woman underwent resection of the left kidney. Therefore, the main task was to preserve the right wing at any cost. We decided to embolize (overlap) the vessels supplying the formation.

“We performed renal arteriography and found that a giant conglomerate of vessels occupies up to 70 percent of the volume of the kidney. We decided to use not microemboli, but two special embolization microcoils. They are made of nitinol, a shape memory metal. After the spiral is pushed out of the supply microcatheter, it takes on a programmed shape, curling up into a kind of ball, completely blocks the lumen of the artery and deprives the vascular formation of the ability to function, - and specified. about. The operation was performed through the radial artery, so within an hour the patient was able to walk. The next day she was discharged. The woman's blood pressure has stabilized.

Strainer wire in the throat

Metropolitan doctors removed a piece of wire from the woman's throat, which she ate along with the cottage cheese. The operation was performed at the 15 Filatov City Clinical Hospital.

A 59-year-old patient was admitted to the emergency department with complaints of fever, shortness of breath, hoarseness, and foreign body sensation. The CT scan showed the presence of a half-ring object in the pharynx. It turned out that the woman was grinding the cottage cheese, a piece of wire from the strainer got into the food.

The operation under general anesthesia lasted only one and a half minutes. It was conducted by ENT doctor Svetlana Khodyreva and anesthesiologist-resuscitator Vitaly Mushkin. They removed a metal wire about three centimeters long.

Soon the woman was discharged in a satisfactory condition.

Simultaneous removal of the tumor and prosthetics of the aorta

This rare operation was performed by surgeons of the First Moscow State Medical University (MGMU) named after Sechenov.

An elderly man consulted a doctor about pain when walking. The study showed atherosclerosis of the abdominal aorta and arteries of the lower extremities. The patient began to be examined before the operation. In particular, they did a gastroscopy and found cancer of one of the parts of the stomach.

They decided to operate at once. The cancerous tumor was removed and the abdominal aorta was replaced.

- The resection was low-traumatic, laparoscopic, through punctures. And the prosthetics of the abdominal aorta was performed from a mini-access, - said Roman Komarov, head of the Department of Faculty Surgery of the 1st Institute of Clinical Medicine named after Sklifosov Sechenov University.

The operation lasted about five hours and was completed successfully. As Komarov explained to the Moskva agency, such operations are rarely performed in Russia, including because of their high complexity.

Rescue of a child who fell from the seventh floor

In Moscow, a boy was operated on, who received a brain injury and a fractured hip when falling from a height of the seventh floor.

The child was discharged two weeks later. He faced a two-month recovery period.

Operation in the "red zone"

Doctors of the Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine performed heart surgery on a 62-year-old patient with coronavirus in the conditions of the "red zone".

Some time ago, a woman was given a pacemaker, but suddenly bleeding from the right heart into the pericardial cavity began. Blood quickly filled the cavity and squeezed the heart. In such a situation, as the doctors explained, it is necessary to urgently pump out blood from the pericardial cavity, since this is fraught with death.

There was an hour left for the rescue, a maximum of two. Since the woman was with COVID-19, the operation was performed in the "red zone". Doctor Stanislav Goncharov successfully performed a puncture and removed the blood.

The patient was discharged in a stable condition.
