In the Kaliningrad region, about 6,000 women were tested for human papillomavirus (HPV) in 2020. This was announced on Wednesday, January 20, at the regional health ministry. The study was carried out as part of a pilot project for the combined diagnosis of cervical cancer. It was attended by residents of the Kaliningrad region, born in the 1971-1990s. In 10% of them, oncogenic forms of HPV were found, in several - cervical cancer, which the women themselves did not even suspect. If the patient is diagnosed with HPV, she is referred to the antenatal clinic at the place of residence, where additional research is carried out. Then doctors prescribe treatment or give recommendations for further compulsory observation. “This is the first time such a project is being implemented in the Kaliningrad Region,” said Tatyana Zadorkina, chief physician of the Regional Center for Specialized Types of Medical Aid. - Among its advantages is that the research can be done completely free of charge in state clinics. The test is carried out very quickly, it is quite informative, therefore it is an effective method of early prevention of cervical cancer and allows, if necessary, to prescribe timely treatment. And we urge all women to take advantage of this unique opportunity and undergo research. The project continues. Find out more information, as well as sign up for a study here.
