"Further development of the republic is possible by increasing the real incomes of residents, and this will be available when the business is working. We plan to pay great attention to tax policy, the creation of social and investment infrastructure," Zdunov said.

According to the Acting Head of Mordovia, his first decisions will concern the fight against coronavirus, and without prejudice to the economy. "We now need to protect ourselves all together from this infection, and at the same time, so that the economy does not fall. Probably, the first steps will be connected with this," he said.

Answering a question about possible personnel decisions, Zdunov said: "Everyone who wants to work and serve, serve honestly, really, everyone will work, and we will give everyone this opportunity."

On November 18, Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of the 66-year-old head of Mordovia, Vladimir Volkov, who had headed the region since 2012, and appointed 42-year-old Zdunov as the acting head of the republic.
