“Bortnikov conveyed greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the head of state. The meeting discussed the current situation in the region, the settlement of the conflict, the implementation of the points of the trilateral agreement. It was noted that the situation is stable,”the press service of the head of Azerbaijan said in a statement.

It is specified that Bortnikov and Aliyev discussed issues of cooperation in the field of security between Azerbaijan and Russia. Before his trip to Baku, the head of the Russian FSB visited Yerevan.

The Azerbaijani embassy in the Russian Federation also reported that the republic is closing the land border with Russia until March 1 next year due to the high rate of spread of the new coronavirus infection in both countries.

“Due to a sharp increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus both in Russia and in Azerbaijan, as well as the introduction of strict quarantine measures inside our country, the land state border between the Russian Federation (Republic of Dagestan) and the Republic of Azerbaijan will be closed for citizens to transit until 1 March 2021,”the diplomatic mission said.

The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh escalated on September 27. Since the beginning of the clashes, Baku and Yerevan have agreed on an armistice three times, but each time it was violated. On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement on the complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The document provides for the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in the region. They will control the entire contact line and the Lachin corridor. In addition, the Aghdam, Kelbajar and Lachin regions were returned under the control of Azerbaijan.]>
