In Berlin, a protest is taking place against restrictive measures in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The demonstration is attended by about 10 thousand people. They went out into the street at the Brandenburg Gate with posters "Democracy, not dictatorship," "No vaccinations," "Put masks on the government, not the people." The police used tear gas and water cannons on the demonstrators. At least 190 people were detained.
It is noted that most of the protesters took to the streets of the German capital without masks. They do not respond to calls to maintain distance and hygiene rules. After calls to disperse, the police used water cannons against the people. From the side of the protesters, smoke bombs, firecrackers and bottles flew in response.
The crowd that gathered at the police barriers in the Bundestag area tried several times to break through the cordon. The protesters, as the police said, used a piano as a battering ram. In total, more than two thousand police officers provide security in the city.
“There were 190 arrests. Two people will immediately appear before a judge [who will choose a preventive measure for them] »- said in a message to the Berlin police on Twitter. "Nine colleagues were injured during the operation", - added in the department. It also reported several injured protesters.
New restrictions due to the situation with COVID-19, the German authorities have introduced since November 2. The country has closed fitness clubs, swimming pools, beauty and massage studios, theaters, cinemas and concert halls. In addition, only members of no more than two households are allowed to meet outside the home.
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said at a meeting of the Presidium of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) that quarantine measures in the country could be tightened. On November 18, the Bundestag intends to adopt a new version of the law on the infectious protection of the population. It will expand the powers of the Ministry of Health to strengthen restrictive measures. At the same time, the demonstrators accuse the government of violating their freedoms.
