Law enforcers in Minsk detained more than 200 people who took part in unauthorized protests, the press service of the Minsk city police department said. According to the human rights center "Viasna", the detentions in the capital of Belarus began immediately after the start of the march. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic noted a "significant decrease" in the number of protesters.

“For violation of the legislation on mass events on the territory of Minsk, more than 200 citizens were detained, in respect of whom an inspection is being carried out within the framework of the current legislation”, - reads the message on the website of the Minsk police.

The police department noted that the protesters were repeatedly warned about the illegality of participation in unauthorized events and the need to comply with traffic rules. After that, the most active protesters were detained, police said.

The Belarusian opposition tried to hold an unauthorized march in the capital of the republic on November 22. The protesters gathered in small groups in different districts of Minsk. Law enforcers thwarted attempts by protesters to form columns and obstruct traffic. In some cases, security forces used special equipment.

The press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus Olga Chemodanova confirmed the use of special equipment by law enforcement officers. According to her, they were used against persons who violated public order and resisted. Chemodanova also noted "a significant decrease in the number of participants in the action in Minsk."

As of 19:00 Moscow time, at least 268 detainees are known, according to the human rights center Viasna. According to him, the detentions took place mainly in Minsk, as well as Borovlyany, Pinsk, Brest, Novopolotsk, Zaslavl, Grodno, Lyakhovichi.

Presidential elections were held in Belarus on August 9. The CEC declared the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko the winner. The opposition disagreed with the results. After the vote, protests began in the country, which continue to this day. The Prosecutor General's Office of the country said that after the protests, 650 criminal cases were initiated, more than 100 of them are already in the courts. Sentences were passed in 16 cases.
