During this year, 667 dogs and 285 cats left the Kozhukhov shelter for new families. The shelter on Pekhorskaya Street is one of the largest in Moscow; about 3 thousand dogs and about 300 cats are kept here. As the head of the department for keeping stray animals of the State Budgetary Institution "Highways of the VAO" Natalia Semyonova said, cats spend the winter in warm rooms, where there are beds, toys, food and water. Hay is placed in doghouses for warmth. Kozhukhovsky has its own veterinary service. - We examine and treat our patients using the latest equipment. A modern dental unit, expert class ultrasound machines, infusion pumps for intravenous administration of solutions have been purchased, - says the chief veterinarian Svetlana Koldashova. Six to eight animals operate here daily. Veterinarians even perform complex oncological operations. Five years ago, animals were sent to third-party clinics for all orthopedic operations. Now Kozhukhovsky's doctors can assemble almost any fracture on their own. Practicing on Pekhorskaya and such a new direction in veterinary medicine as plastic surgery. - Not so long ago a dog came to us. The unfortunate animal was doused with some kind of chemistry. The skin on half of my back is dead. We cleaned the wounds, performed two plastic surgeries. The dog looks absolutely healthy, and two weeks ago it was taken to the family, - said the head physician.
