The Australian woman never washed her makeup off her face and was left with scars on her eyelids. This is reported by the news portal Science Alert.
Theresa Lynch from Sydney complained to an ophthalmologist about pain in her eyes. During the examination, the doctor discovered black spots on the back of the eyelids of a 50-year-old woman. “She admitted that she had been actively using mascara for more than 25 years and did not always wash it off,” said Dr. Dana Robaei.
According to her, for several years, while the woman slept with mascara applied to her eyelashes, she crumbled, absorbed into the mucous membrane of the eye and hardened. Small pieces of the congealed cosmetic pierced the conjunctiva and scratched the cornea. “It feels like sand in the eyes - constant irritation,” concluded the doctor.
Lynch had to endure an hour and a half surgery, during which doctors removed all the pieces of mascara from her eyes. As a result, she left scars on her eyelids and cornea.
“It is very important to take off your makeup properly every night, no exceptions. I shouldn't have let it get that far,”said Lynch, who decided to release her story to the edification of other girls.
