The vice-governor of St. Petersburg Maxim Shaskolsky left his post amid rumors about the appointment of the head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS). Shaskolsky dealt with energy issues and tariff regulation. From November 11, vice-governor of the Northern capital, Maxim Sokolov, was appointed to act as his interim.
"Maxim Shaskolsky completed his work as Vice Governor of St. Petersburg on November 10, 2020", - said in a message on the website of the St. Petersburg administration.
Maxim Shaskolsky is 45 years old. Since January 2019, as Vice Governor of St. Petersburg, he was responsible for the energy sector and tariff regulation. Prior to that, he was an advisor to the governor of the Northern Capital, and even earlier, he worked in senior positions in city energy companies: Petroelectrosbyt, Petersburg Sales Company, Lenenergo and others.
On November 9, sources of RBC and Forbes reported that Igor Artemyev, the head of the FAS for 16 years, will leave his post in the near future. The interlocutors of the publications called the vice-governor of St. Petersburg Maxim Shaskolsky and the head of the FAS department for the Northern capital Vadim Vladimirov as likely candidates for the post of head of the antimonopoly service.
The press service of the OFAS in St. Petersburg denied information about the possible appointment of Vladimirov. The official himself noted in an interview with reporters that he "also has something to do in his city."
The head of the FAS Igor Artemyev may move to the post of assistant to the chairman of the government Mikhail Mishustin, the media write. Artemyev has headed the Antimonopoly Service since its inception in 2004 following the abolition of the Antimonopoly Committee. Igor Artemyev is the only representative of the non-parliamentary opposition in the highest authorities; he is a member of the federal political committee of the Yabloko party.
