Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children, deputy and TV presenter Oksana Pushkina appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office about the situation with the coercion of women to sterilization in the Uktuss boarding house for the disabled. She announced this to RIA Novosti on Monday, October 19.
“The situation with the forced sterilization of women in the Uktussky boarding house is outrageous! In turn, I made a request to the General Prosecutor's Office and keep this situation under control,”said Pushkina.
She also noted that she is in contact with the human rights ombudsman in the Sverdlovsk region, Tatyana Merzlyakova, who is dealing with the incident. “This is one of the best ombudsmen in the country. Therefore, I am sure that she will bring the matter to the end and figure it out,”the deputy concluded.
On October 17, a story of a resident of the boarding house Lyudmila Guseva was published on the network, who said that she was forcibly sterilized, threatening to send her to a neuropsychiatric boarding school. She lived in an institution for more than ten years, the procedure was carried out in 2008. The woman is legally capable, worked as a cleaner, went to friends during her vacation and wrote down the appeal. The publication mentioned several more injured women with disabilities who lived in a boarding house after the orphanage. According to unconfirmed information, one of the sterilized patients died.
