Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Russia of unwillingness to establish long-term peace in Syria. The reason for such a statement by the Turkish leader was the attack by the Russian Aerospace Forces on the opposition training camp in the Syrian province of Idlib. Erdogan also stressed that Ankara has sufficient potential to cleanse the entire territory of the neighboring country from terrorists.

"The attack of the Russian Aerospace Forces on the training center of the Syrian opposition in Idlib is an indicator of unwillingness [Russia] long-term peace and stability in Syria", - said Erdogan, speaking in front of the parliamentary faction of the ruling Justice and Development Party.

The Turkish leader announced his readiness for decisive action if the terrorists in Syria are not withdrawn from the border with Turkey. "If terrorists [fighters of the Syrian wing of the Kurdish self-defense units] will not be withdrawn outside the line defined by the agreements with Turkey, we will move on to action. Ankara reserves the right to take steps at the right time and place. Turkey has all legal grounds for this,” he added.

Erdogan called on all foreign partners to determine their position on Syria. "The countries present in Syria, but not making the same contribution to the fight against ISIS * terrorists as Turkey, must abandon the games and take a clear position," - stressed the Turkish President.

In the early days, the Syrian media reported on the attack by the Russian Aerospace Forces on the training camp of a terrorist group in Jabal Duweil, near the city of Harem near the Turkish border. As a result of the attack, more than 40 militants were killed and at least 60 were injured. Western publications announced the deaths of dozens of civilians.

The Syrian Center for Monitoring Human Rights Observance stated that a training camp of the pro-Turkish group "Feylak al-Sham" was attacked. According to the organization, as a result of the bombing, at least 78 militants were killed, and about 90 were injured.

The civil war in Syria has been going on since 2011. In the second half of 2018, the Syrian government forces, with the support of the Russian Aerospace Forces, managed to make a radical change in the war - most of the country's territory was cleared of Islamists and militants of the moderate opposition forces. To resolve the conflict, a constitutional committee was created, which included the opposition.

In March 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed on a ceasefire in Idlib. The new agreement between Russia and Turkey included three points: a ceasefire in Idlib from March 6; the creation of a “safety corridor” in the region six kilometers north and south of the M4; Russian and Turkish military from March 15 begin joint patrols of the Syrian territories. Later, the Turkish leader said that if the agreements reached are violated, then Ankara may return to unilateral actions against the Syrian forces in the province.
