MOSCOW, December 14 - RIA Novosti. A high-quality artificial Christmas tree can last more than 10 years, but only under the condition of a competent choice, proper storage and operation, according to the statement of Roskachestvo.

Artificial Christmas trees are mainly made from polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, much less often from rubber, often in combination with other polymers. With proper storage, experts point out, a high-quality tree can last at least ten years: it is best to keep it in a cool, dry and dark room so that the "needles" do not lose color. You should not store the tree next to heating devices.

"A new tree will smell of auxiliary substances, but if the manufacturing technology has not been violated, then the smell will not be too harsh and will almost completely disappear in a few days. However, if the tree is of poor quality or too old, then, most likely, the smell will not go anywhere." indicates Roskachestvo.

When choosing an artificial spruce, it is recommended to hold your hand against the needles: falling out, bending and brittleness will indicate a poor-quality product. It is better to give preference to products with a metal frame; there should be no cracks and protruding iron parts on the branches and the body.

“Do not buy a tree that says it was produced several years ago, five or more: the material can age, especially if the tree is exposed to light every year. The older the artificial tree at the time of purchase, the less it will last,” says in the message.

Experts advise wiping the PVC tree before use with a cloth with a little castor oil: this softens the material and prolongs its life. As for the fire hazard, usually a small amount of special substances are added to the composition of the Christmas trees, which will prevent the spread of flame, as well as absorb smoke. But if the tree contains an elastomer (rubber) that burns very well, then you need to be doubly careful with such a tree, says Roskachestvo.
