Scientists at the University of Missouri conducted an interesting study: if a person is temporarily deprived of a mobile phone, he will be more nervous, less sociable and, interestingly, less happy. But the presence of a telephone in our life is not always beneficial. Observations of scientists and doctors show that a favorite gadget can cause insomnia, allergic reactions and even premature aging of the body. How and why?

Problem 1: Insomnia

In cosmetology, there is such a thing as beauty sleep. To wake up vigorous, active and look fresh, you need to go to bed no later than 22-23 hours, taking at least 7 hours to rest. But often these plans are spoiled by addiction to the phone.

Even when you turned off your laptop on time or read the last page of the novel, instead of giving in to the "embrace of Morpheus", you once again check your mail and count the likes on social networks. When your eyes stare at a bright screen in pitch darkness for a long time, it is harder for your brain to relax. That's why it's worth picking up a gadget and insomnia is guaranteed.

What to do?

If you want to fall asleep easily - forget about devices at least an hour before going to bed!

Did you know?

The world's first call from a mobile phone was made in 1973, and the first SMS was sent only 19 years later - in 1992.

Problem 2: Dark spots on the skin

Blue light from computer screens, smartphones and phones is not as harmless as we previously thought. Research by scientists shows that gadgets emit HEV radiation. The high energy of visible light penetrates the skin even deeper than UV rays (ultraviolet radiation), damaging the elastin and collagen fibers and reducing the body's ability to produce hyaluronic acid. In addition, there is evidence that HEV radiation can exacerbate pigmentation problems.

What to do?

Even applying sunscreen daily to your skin will not save you from HEV radiation. Most of the existing products on the beauty market only protect against ultraviolet radiation. To be effective against HEV rays, they must contain new unique ingredients - plant forms of melanin. Look for them in products labeled “UVA, UVB and HEV protects”.

Elizabeth Tanzi, M. D., Professor in the Department of Dermatology at George Washington University

I don't think the time has come when HEV radiation is an emergency. We know that ultraviolet radiation is more damaging than any other type of radiation. Therefore, it is important not to ditch traditional sunscreens in favor of HEV filters. The product must work against all types of damaging rays.

Problem 3: Premature aging

With prolonged exposure, HEV radiation significantly accelerates the production of melanin pigment by the skin, which in turn leads to the appearance of age spots and hyperpigmentation. And if a person suffers from rosacea or melasma, the heat generated by the phone can aggravate the disease or trigger it.

Another danger of using gadgets is the destruction of the protein structures of the skin - elastin and collagen, due to which the skin loses its firmness and elasticity earlier, and the face oval changes.

What to do?

To maintain a strong skin foundation, add collagen serums and concentrates to your daily beauty rituals. Make sure your product provides good antioxidant protection, vitamins, hyaluronic acid, niacin. If dark spots have already appeared on your face, consult your doctor regarding the use of products with retinol, a derivative of vitamin A. Such cosmetics brighten spots, even out skin tone and restore youthful colors to the face.

Fact!

In 2010, a new type of phobia appeared - nomophobia. This is the name of the fear of losing the phone and the fear of being left without communication.

Problem 4: Allergic reaction

Sometimes a mobile phone is an allergy provocateur for the unsuspecting owner. If you purchased a stylish nickel or chrome case for your gadget, it is possible that the itchy spots on your skin are contact dermatitis. These materials have been proven to be powerful allergens.

What to do?

At the first suspicion of allergies, "dress" your gadget in a plastic case or stick a protective glass on the screen. See your doctor. The doctor recommends remedies to control the rash and help cope with the problem.

But it is impossible to prescribe creams with hydrocortisone on your own, as advised in some forums. They can lead to serious complications that require long-term medical treatment.

Did you know?

90% of mobile phones that are made in Japan are produced in a durable waterproof case, since today's youth do not part with their gadgets even while taking a shower!

Problem 5: Blackheads and Acne

A cell phone screen holds 10 times more bacteria than most public places. Such disappointing conclusions were reached by Charles Gerba, Ph. D., microbiologist at the University of Arizona. "Thanks to the heat that phones produce, it makes it like a Petri dish for producing tens of thousands of microbes." With each call, we transfer more and more bacteria to our skin, which clogs pores, creates acne and blackheads.

What to do?

During the sunny season, it is especially important to minimize contact with the phone. The natural skin secretion (sebum) and sweat mix, and together with the used decorative cosmetics, already on the skin, they create ideal conditions for the growth of bacteria.

To minimize the likelihood of negative consequences, you can turn on the Bluetooth setting on your phone and receive calls using headphones. Also, remember to clean the screen several times a day with antibacterial wipes, which can be kept in your purse or desk drawer.

Elizabeth Tanzi, M. D., Professor in the Department of Dermatology at George Washington University

Holding your phone against your cheek and pressing it firmly against your cheek during a call can irritate your skin and clog your pores. The pressure and heat from the phone stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. It also tends to trap bacteria and dirt from your phone in your pores, causing you to get acne or even painful cysts. Solution: During a call, use the speaker of the phone for hands-free conversations, or simply keep the phone away from your cheek.

Problem 6: "Rings of Venus" on the neck

The habit of entertaining yourself by watching social networks or news on the Internet while traveling on the subway or forced waiting is fraught with the appearance of wrinkles and characteristic "rings" on the neck. They arise due to the fact that the head is tilted for a long time, the skin of the neck gathers in folds, which leads to the formation or deepening of already outlined wrinkles.

What to do?

Try to spend less time hanging on your phone by choosing other activities to wait, such as listening to audiobooks or listening to music. Don't forget about prevention! Apply a moisturizing cream with a lifting effect to the skin of the neck every morning and evening, it will preserve a clear face contour and prolong the youthfulness and beauty of the neck. The best ingredients in neck cosmetics are herbal extracts, vitamins A, E and C, caffeine, peptides, retinol.

Fact!

Phone throwing is a popular sport in Finland. In 2014, a record was set - 110.42 meters. Maybe it's time for us to ditch the gadgets? At least within your own home. So that you can get some rest, learn to cope with stress and improve your health.
