Increasingly, on the street, in the vastness of the worldwide network and in social networks, you can contemplate men who have one nail on their hand painted with varnish. At first, it may seem that this is another very absurd trend, a tribute to fashion or an attempt to classify itself as some kind of secret community. However, the real reason, although somewhat strange in its manifestation, still makes much more sense than one might think at first glance. This “current” originates in Australia, or more precisely, in Cambodia, where an activist and volunteer Elliot Costello, who arrived from Australia, traveled on a mission. Within the walls of one of the social centers, a man met a young girl Theo, who was brought up in a dysfunctional family, where she was often subjected to physical violence. During the conversation, it turned out that she was not indifferent to manicure, and she asked to practice on the hand of a new acquaintance. Costello agreed, and before the county announced that he would always paint one finger on a regular basis in memory of this meeting. Upon returning home, Elliot, along with other activists from the YGAP organization, decided to launch a flash mob within social networks, in which men were offered to paint any one nail on their hand, posting a picture on the Internet accompanied by the hashtag #PolishedMan. This manicure is intended to reflect the frightening "1 in 5" statistic, as this is the number of children experiencing domestic violence. At first, this idea may seem silly, but it found a response on the network. People began to ask questions, learned about the problem, and began to donate to a large-scale fund to help children who are victims of domestic violence. So, even Hollywood celebrities, including Hugh Jackman and the equally famous Chris Hemsworth, decided to support the fund.
