A 32-year-old resident of Russia found strange, persistent pimples on her face, which turned out to be a parasite living under her skin. This is reported by The Daily Mail, citing a study by the New England Journal of Medicine.

The girl struggled with unidentified bulges on her eyelid for two weeks. When she noticed something strange for the first time, the bumps were located under the eye, but after a while they moved.

After 10 days, the semblance of pimples disappeared, but then the lip of the Russian woman swelled to incredible sizes. According to the girl, the bumps itched and sometimes caused a burning sensation, but there were no other symptoms. During the examination, the doctors observed how something was moving under the patient's skin, identified this as a parasitic worm and removed it surgically.

The publication notes that, according to the Russian woman, she was in the countryside some time ago and remembers that she was pretty much bitten by mosquitoes.

The parasite found under the skin is Dirofilaria repens, which is common in dogs and cats and is transmitted through the bite of blood-sucking mosquitoes.
