A dermatovenerologist-cosmetologist of one of the Russian clinics, Marua Azret-Alievna Baichorova, revealed the ways to properly care for the skin of the face and hands in winter. The corresponding material was received by the editorial office of "Lenta.ru" on Wednesday, December 30.

First of all, the expert noted that a long stay in the bathroom can contribute to overdrying the skin, so she advised taking a short warm shower. In addition, it is necessary to moisturize the body with products based on hyaluronic acid, dimethicone or ceramides, which help to retain moisture. It is better to apply an oil-based moisturizer on the face and décolleté.

It is also recommended to use a humidifier at home and drink more water during the winter season.

Before going outside, a zinc oxide or titanium dioxide sunscreen lotion should be applied to your face, even if there is no sun outside and it is snowing. The dermatologist advised wearing hats and scarves to minimize the effects of wind, snow and cold temperatures on the skin.

“A face mask is a forced, but necessary measure of protection against the new coronavirus infection. We have to wear it often and for a long time, which also affects our face in the form of irritation, peeling and even acne. After removing the mask, wash your face with warm water, then be sure to apply a moisturizer to your skin. Try not to use cosmetics, if you wear a mask, it can clog your pores and cause irritation,”Baichorova warned.

She stressed that protective masks made of nylon, polyester and viscose obstruct the air flow to the skin, creating a greenhouse effect, so these materials should be avoided. In this case, the mask must be removed with clean hands.

The specialist noted that in winter, the skin of the hands often bothers with its "papery" state, since it contains the least amount of sebaceous glands. To avoid cracking the skin, it is recommended to apply a moisturizer to your hands before going outside. It also needs to be used before bed. According to the expert, cotton gloves will keep moisture on the skin of your hands throughout the night.

“To protect the skin of the face in winter, beauticians often prescribe cell concentrates. These substances regulate the secretion of sebaceous secretions and solve the problem of rosacea and skin pigmentation. At this time, it is best for a beautician to carry out lifting procedures that stimulate collagen synthesis and improve skin color, removing flaking, irritation, dryness and redness of the skin caused by temperature extremes,”Baichorova concluded.

Earlier in December, dermatologists warned of the risks of wearing the mask incorrectly. Experts said that wearing a mask on the chin provokes inflammation, and overly dense creams under the mask clog pores, which can also lead to acne.
