Now the innovative technique of the specialists of the Burn Center of the Regional Clinical Hospital named after S. V. Ochapovsky is used by medical centers in different cities of the world. Only 15 such operations have been carried out in Russia.
“Plastic surgery is performed with a single skin flap taken from the unaffected part of the patient's body. As a result, the patient gets a new face,”the Ministry of Health of the Krasnodar Territory noted.
The world's first skin transplant for a patient with severe facial burns with a single graft was performed at KKB 1 in 2010. For a 61-year-old woman with a 4th degree burn, combustiologists actually created a new face from a section of her own thigh. Before that, plastic surgery was performed only from a few areas of the skin.
In 2014, a group of surgeons at the clinic under the leadership of the head of the Burn Center Sergei Bogdanov became a laureate of the federal prize "Vocation" in the nomination "For the creation of a new treatment method."
In 2016, on the basis of the clinic, the first in the world transplant of a whole skin area was carried out for the treatment of many burn scars in a 20-year-old young man who suffered. Doctors took the autograft from the patient's abdomen.
Since last year, fibroblasts have been used for better skin engraftment. They are grown by specialists from the KKB 1 scientific laboratory from a small area of intact skin of a burn patient. The grown autograft takes root twice as fast. This technology has already been used in the tenth skin graft - a 10-year-old patient burned 50% of his body. The other day the boy was safely discharged from the hospital.
