In Italy, over the past day, a record number of cases of coronavirus infection has been identified since the beginning of the pandemic - 37,809. This is 3304 more cases than a day earlier, according to a bulletin released on Friday by the country's health ministry.

The anti-record is explained, among other things, by the largest number of tests performed for COVID-19 - over the past day it exceeded 234 thousand. The ratio of the number of tests done to the number of positive results obtained was 16.14 percent.

As on Thursday, cases were detected in all regions. Lombardy has the largest number of infections again - 9934, Piedmont - 4878 and Campania - 4508. In Veneto, 3387 positive results were recorded, in Lazio - 2699 and in Tuscany - 2592.

The number of accurately identified carriers of COVID-19 today in Italy is 499,118. Hospitalized with symptoms of the disease - 24,005 (plus 749 per day). The number of those in need of intensive care increased by 124 - to 2515. Another 472 598 asymptomatic carriers of the virus are in quarantine or self-isolation at home (plus 26 250).

10 586 people were recognized as recovered. The number of people cured of the coronavirus is now 322,925. Over the past 24 hours, 446 COVID-19 patients have died. In Italy, COVID-19 has already killed 40,638 people.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, the number of people infected with the new type of coronavirus, including the dead and recovered, has reached 862,681.
