On April 15, 1951, the first Miss World beauty pageant took place in London. Tatiana Andreeva-Falk, director of the national beauty contest "Beauty of Russia" and "Miss Moscow", told Vecherka about how the beauty canons, appearance and dreams of the contestants changed.
- I worked with Miss World for 12 years. This is the oldest competition that deserves respect.
Such beauty shows are an opportunity to show oneself, get the experience of going on stage … But time passes, and views change. In the 1980s, when asked what they dream about, the girls often replied that they wanted their own island. Now they say that they are striving to get a second education, find themselves in a profession, become financially independent, and not find a rich man and arrange their own destiny.
Tatyana Andreeva-Falk also recalled that such a "women's competition" existed many centuries ago.
- Even Ivan the Terrible chose brides from all volosts. And now this is the same review, only in a different time frame. Girls compete not only in beauty, but also in talents. To bear the title of the winner, you need to be versatile, - said Tatiana.

Qualities that are required from the contestants: a thin body, healthy shiny hair, large expressive facial features. Naturalness is in fashion. Miss World is a beautiful, intelligent and talented girl who wants to benefit the universe.
Competition conditions
Girls from 18 to 26 years old can participate in Miss World. Unmarried, no children. Girls should not have nude pictures. Physical parameters tend to thereby 90-60-90 and growth not less than 172 centimeters.

In 1994, Aishwarya Rai became the winner of the competition. She is the only Indian woman whose wax figure is housed in Madame Tussauds.

The first Miss World in 1951 was 22-year-old Swede Kikki Hokansson. The competition was held in London. Her real name is Kerstin, but his girlfriend decided to change to a more flirty version of Kikki. The Swede received a jewelry necklace and a check for £ 1,000 as a prize. She entered the history of the competition as the only winner who was dressed in a bikini during the awards. Back then, swimwear was just coming into fashion, and Kikki took a chance, despite public censure. For which she was publicly condemned by the Pope himself. As a result, the bikini passage was removed from the competition, and since then the winners have been awarded only in dresses.

- In the middle of the last century, American women submitted X-rays of their spine to the competition. So they chose a girl with perfect posture.
In addition, the contestants stood on a special platform-scales, which showed the distribution of weight between the feet. The winner was the participant whose number was closest to 50/50.
