The action for early detection of melanoma "Take a picture of your skin" was resumed at the Moscow Regional Oncological Dispensary on May 20. The action was timed to coincide with the International Melanoma Diagnostic Day.
Everyone could send photos of their moles to the e-mail addresses [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]. If, after studying the photo, the doctors have doubts, the person will be invited to an appointment.
“Melanoma of the skin is a malignant tumor characterized by a fast and aggressive course, leading to death in case of delayed diagnosis. All images will be carefully examined by experienced oncologists and dermatologists. In the event that the photo cannot exclude the presence of a malignant tumor, an invitation will be sent to the email address for an examination with the use of dermatoscopy,”said Denis Sidorov, head of the department of soft tissue tumors at the Moscow Regional Oncological Dispensary.
For early detection of skin melanoma, it is enough to regularly examine yourself on your own. "Accord melanoma" will help to recognize the threat in time - signs of birthmark degeneration:
- Asymmetry - if the conventional axis divides the mole into two uneven halves;
- Edge - the appearance of irregularities or notches on it;
- Bleeding - if the mole begins to bleed;
- Color - any changes in the color of the mole;
- Size - the diameter of the mole exceeds 5 millimeters, an increase in the size of the mole;
- Dynamics - the appearance of crusts, cracks, hair loss.
The main goal of the action is to draw the attention of residents of the Moscow region to the importance of timely diagnosis of suspicious moles and pigmented skin lesions. The event will run until June 20.
In 2019, more than 17.7 thousand people received medical care at the Moscow Regional Oncological Dispensary. The institution's surgeons have performed more than 6.3 thousand operations.
