China is raising the stakes in its technology race with the United States, while struggling to recover from the effects of the trade war and the economic uncertainty of the pandemic. The media write about this with reference to the calculations for a five-year development of technologies in the draft economic plan, promulgated at the country's annual legislative assembly.
China plans to increase research spending by seven percent annually through the end of 2025, according to journalists and analysts. Thus, the country is going to accelerate the development of advanced technologies from chips to artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
It is noted that as part of the plan, the country's leadership plans to create new laboratories, promote the development of educational programs and otherwise stimulate research in areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, semiconductors and quantum computing.
The Chinese government also added that it will increase spending on basic research in 2021 and will develop an additional 10-year research strategy. With 5G networks, self-driving taxis already available in the country and a huge amount of AI research being carried out, the plan looks really promising.
Recall that in recent years, the country had to face trade sanctions from the United States, under which Huawei and ZTE fell. President Biden's new administration also kicked off by increasing spending on 5G networks and in the areas of artificial intelligence and electric vehicles.
