The decision to add a new stage, according to the British online portal Daily Mail, was made after the organizers of the event were shocked to see that some of the very young participants, who have just reached the age of 19, are overly addicted to contouring in order to improve their appearance. or they overuse makeup so much that their natural beauty is lost under a layer of thick makeup.
Miss England Director Angie Beasley commented: “We tell girls that they don't need fillers, false eyelashes and eyebrow tattoos to participate in our competition, but they can't hear us. Their example illustrates the devastating impact of edited images on social media and on television on young women’s self-esteem and mental health. The difference between the picture and the reality is out of control, and it is very important for us to maintain the true beauty of the body, whatever it may be."
In 2019, more than 20,000 applicants applied for participation in the competition, the additional qualifying round, according to the organizers of the competition, should weed out participants who are not ready to appear before the organizers in their natural form and stop constantly improving their appearance. "If you look at the former Miss England winners, you will see that most of them are natural beauties, which is much more worthy of emulation," Beasley explained.
All 54 participants who have passed all previous tests will be able to take part in this year's additional stage. The winners of this round will automatically advance to the final of the competition, which will take place in August 2019 in Newcastle.
