A correspondent of the Express-Novosti news agency talked with a plastic surgeon to find out which breast implants should be chosen.
Konstantinova Irina Valerievna, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Plastic Surgery of the RUDN University, says that now there is a huge variety of different types of breast implants, they all differ in shape and surface, and, accordingly, in size.
The size range is very large, which makes it possible to choose the most suitable option for each patient individually.
The surgeon notes that the shape of the implants are round anatomical, on the surface there are smooth, textured, and the third option is implants covered with polyurethane foam. This is a special coating that ensures reliable ingrowth and fixation of implants in the breast tissue.
Installation of implants is carried out in various ways:
- this is access through the areola;
- access with an incision in the fold under the breast;
- through axillary access.
“In my opinion, the most cosmetically optimal method is access through the areola. Because the scar along the edge of the halo is almost invisible. Neither on the skin nor in the armpit - there are no scars anywhere,”the specialist notes.
The plastic surgeon told us about the details of the operation.
Implants are mainly placed under the pectoralis major muscle. Thus, the side of the implant, that is, its edge is not palpable, it is located deep enough, which makes it possible to remove the visual signs of the operated breast. “That is, if you do not make some kind of huge size, but strive for naturalness, then others will not understand that the breast is not their own, and there are implants installed,” the expert says.
As for breastfeeding, the installed implant does not subsequently affect breastfeeding, since over time it becomes overgrown with a capsule, this capsule separates the implant from the surrounding tissue. Accordingly, if a woman becomes pregnant and wants to breastfeed, she can do it without any problems, because the gland is separate from the implant. And often there is also a muscle between the gland and the implant, and all this separates it, and you can feed without affecting the quality of breast milk.
“But it's important to know that the same implant will look different on different patients. For example, if a girl is skinny, tall enough and wants a breast size close to the third size, then I would recommend her an anatomical implant with an axillary installation, with a volume of about 320 milliliters. But it still depends on the width of her shoulders and hips. Therefore, I repeat, each patient is individual, and in order to obtain a good result, it is important to take into account all the parameters when choosing an implant,”explained Irina Konstantinova.
