The introduction of a lockdown in Russia against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic is not planned, said Dmitry Peskov, head of the press service of the President of the Russian Federation, assessing the need to strengthen restrictions. He expressed regret at the rise in the death rate from coronavirus infection. However, according to him, this is a global trend.

“Indeed, covid has added mortality, to the general great regret of such a worldwide trend. But all the other explanations were given by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova. I repeat once again, there are still no plans to introduce a lockdown”, - said Peskov during the daily briefing.

The head of the Kremlin press service noted the "dirty" methods of competition with the Russian vaccine against coronavirus "Sputnik V" from a number of countries. “These aspirations are visible to the naked eye. The competition is fierce. And it's good when the competition is fair. It's another matter when dirty methods are used to discredit our vaccine,” he added.

Over the past day, 28,585 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Russia. The total number of cases in the country during the pandemic reached 2,597,711. In relative terms, according to the COVID-19 operational headquarters, the increase increased to 1.2%. In Russia, a new record was also recorded for the number of victims of COVID-19 per day - 613 people. Previously, the maximum number of deaths recorded in 24 hours in the country was 589. In total, 45,893 patients died of infection in Russia.

Earlier, the head of the Gamaleya Center, Alexander Gintsburg, said that more than 150 thousand residents of Russia were vaccinated with the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 as part of civil circulation. According to Gunzburg, this is a larger number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 than in any other country in the world.

Russia was the first in the world to register a vaccine against COVID-19. On August 11, the drug Sputnik V was successfully registered. On December 10, an independent committee to evaluate the clinical trials of Sputnik V called the vaccine safe and reported a 96% efficacy. Such high rates after the first vaccination means that it can become one-component.
