The daily increase in new cases of coronavirus infection on the first day of the new year in the Russian Federation amounted to 27,039 cases. 536 patients with COVID-19 died per day, according to the data of the operational headquarters for combating the infection, released on Friday.
"Over the past day in Russia, confirmed cases of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 - 27,039 in 85 regions, including 4,080 (15.1%) actively detected without clinical manifestations," the headquarters said.
Moscow is still among the regions with the highest incidence rates: 5,907 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in the Russian capital per day, 71 patients died. At the same time, the number of recovered patients exceeded the number of infected: 6,334 people were discharged from hospitals in the city.
St. Petersburg is in second place in terms of the number of detected cases of coronavirus infection per day - 3,746. The northern capital also leads in the number of confirmed deaths - 75.
In third place is the Moscow region - 1,568 cases of COVID-19 per day.
