Another unauthorized rally has been announced in Nizhny Novgorod next weekend. On the eve of these events, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, appealed to the residents of the region and recalled "respect for the law" and responsibility. We publish the text of the appeal: “The main thing I wanted to say about the January 31 rally. About responsibility and the right to peaceful speech. Public events, peaceful rallies and processions can be held at designated locations and must be agreed upon. This is the law. There was no request for approval from the organizers. Therefore, the organizers deliberately violate the law. In addition, there is a pandemic in the world, country and region! And for the sake of human safety, such measures, in principle, cannot be carried out until a radical change in the epidemiological situation. In the event of a violation of the law, law enforcement agencies are required to respond. Otherwise, they will also break the law. I emphasize - they must! They cannot listen to the governor or anyone else and not bring violators to justice. And they will do this both during the unauthorized action and afterwards. Therefore, I ask those who planned to participate, keep in mind that in this case you will break the law. It is respect for the law that is the cornerstone and fundamental foundation of all world democracies. Remember, too, that being in crowded conditions now is a risk of infection and again dramatically increasing the burden on healthcare. This endangers not only you, but other people as well. As for the screenshots distributed on the network from parental chats about organizing joint trips to the cinema, about the requirement to report whereabouts on that day, and so on, I officially declare: I have never given such recommendations. But an order was given to inform parents and children about the illegal status of the action and about its danger. No more! Such information will be carried out through other channels for the safety of residents. The other is either disinformation (there are already such cases) or the initiative of individuals. Their motives are unknown, but it could be such a peculiar attempt to keep people safe. I am addressing my parents and teachers directly. You are not obliged to report to anyone, explain or take time off from any joint events if they are not interesting to you. And there can be no consequences in the course of the educational process in this case. But again, pay attention to what I wrote above. Based on the results of the vaccination campaign, I very much look forward to a significant reduction in the threats of a pandemic by the beginning of the summer of 2021. And then the restrictions on mass events will be removed or significantly relaxed. And there will be an opportunity in the established order to peacefully gather and express your opinion. To which everyone, of course, has the right. Take care of yourself!" This is not the first appeal of Gleb Nikitin. After an unsanctioned rally on January 23, the governor wrote in Instargam that as a teenager he also attended rallies in St. Petersburg, admired the “idols of those years,” which he later became disillusioned with.
