Dermatovenereologist, trichologist Yulia Nagaitseva spoke about the dangers of the popular school hairstyle in an interview with Sputnik radio.
The specialist said that parents can harm girls by braiding their braids too tight.
"Hair grows in groups of hair follicles, constant tightening, pulling leads to injury, the follicle goes into a resting phase and its atrophy may occur,"
- explained Nagaitseva.
She added that it can lead to traction alopecia.
The trichologist emphasized that due to prolonged tension, the hair begins to thin in certain areas of the head. The doctor warned that this form of alopecia cannot be treated therapeutically. Surgical hair transplantation is the only way to recover, she said.
Nagaitseva recommended loosening the child's hair after school and at night, or braiding it into a loose, light braid.
Earlier, pediatrician, immunologist-allergologist Andrei Prodeus called the danger of antiseptics for schoolchildren. According to him, the main danger is that students will have to use them very often, and this leads to drying out of the skin of the hands. In this regard, scientists advise both children and adults not to use antiseptics every 15 minutes. They should only be used after contact with a potentially hazardous surface such as a doorknob.
