President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov fell ill with coronavirus infections. This was reported by the press secretary of the head of the republic Dina Gassieva. According to her, Bibilov suffers a mild illness and continues to perform his duties remotely.

“President Anatoly Bibilov has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 coronavirus. The last test showed a positive result , - clarified Gassieva. She added that the head of the republic suffers the disease in a mild form and continues to perform his duties remotely.

Earlier, COVID-19 was confirmed by the press secretary of Bibilov Dina Gassieva, the acting head of the government Gennady Bekoev, the chief sanitary doctor of the republic Marina Kochieva, as well as from a number of employees of the presidential administration and the government.

In May 2020, the Republic of South Ossetia announced the closure of the border with Russia, after the first case of coronavirus infection was recorded in the country. The ban applied not only to citizens, but also to freight transport. The governments of the two countries decided to open the borders in mid-September.

As of October 17, 194 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in South Ossetia. According to the Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic, Alla Chochieva, 40 patients are undergoing inpatient treatment. Their condition is assessed as moderate. However, no patient is connected to the ventilator.
