Mexican farmers have discovered a statue of a woman made of limestone in a citrus grove. Her age was estimated at 500 years, according to The Associated Press.

The height of the statue is about two meters. The woman is dressed in an elaborate costume, and on her head flaunts an intricate wig, reminiscent of the headdresses of the heroes of the Star Wars saga. The sculptor also depicted a massive necklace with a pendant and tassel earrings. The woman is wearing a long-sleeved shirt and a floor-length skirt, but no shoes are available.

Experts concluded that the statue depicted a noble person or even a ruler, and possibly a goddess. She probably belonged to the Huastec people who lived on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. It is known that before the arrival of Europeans, women occupied an important place in the social life and politics of this civilization.

The statue was attributed to the late post-classical period (1450-1521). Scientists noted that her face expresses surprise: her eyes and mouth are wide open. Probably, several centuries ago, her face was decorated with inserts of obsidian or other stone.

There are no archaeological sites in the place where the statue was found. Therefore, scientists assumed that it was moved from the place where it was originally located. They intend to study the grove more closely, as there may be other ancient artifacts.

Earlier it was reported that thousands of pre-Hispanic monuments were found in Mexico. For this, we used radar scanning technology.
