This spring, MAC released the Shadescents collection - they came up with six suitable fragrances for the six main lipstick shades for the brand. We were inspired by this nifty concept and decided to develop it a bit. BeautyHack special correspondent Moore Soboleva collected her favorite lipsticks from her collection and asked the perfume critic, the owner of the Nose Republic blog, Ksenia Golovanova, to choose olfactory pairs for them.

NARS Audatious in Rita + Guerlain Shalimar

Moore: It's hard to pick one favorite lipstick from the Audacious line - it seems to me to be one of the best on the market - but let it be Rita today. This red shade has a noticeable warm undertone - this is exactly what Rita Hayworth wore, after which the lipstick is named. Not only I love her - it was this color that Nars released in winter in a limited red case.

Ksenia: For me, Rita Hayworth is, first of all, the "Lady from Shanghai". The film is black and white, but it is quite obvious that her character's lipstick is red there, otherwise it simply cannot be. It's the same with Shalimar, the most famous oriental fragrance: if he were a girl, he would walk around as a cold blonde with scarlet lips. And perhaps in a cap.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Perversion + Comme des Garcons Blackpepper

Moore: Good black lipstick - thick and bright, without turning lips dirty - is very difficult to find. This one from the new Vice line is the best I've tried: the favorite brand never fails. Perversion is the perfect black: matte but not tight, dense but not putty.

Ksenia: Perversion, I think, will perfectly fit into a total look in the style of the 1990s: black lipstick, black on the floor, like Trinity's, a coat and a black aroma - peppery and smoky Blackpepper.

Tom Ford Lip Contour Duo in Make Me + The Different Company Rose Poivrée

Moore: Last year, Ford made a small line of double lipsticks with lip liner on one end and lipstick on the other. A terribly convenient form factor, and a well-known one: very similar lipsticks came out at Dior about 15 years ago. But Ford made the sticks in a slightly different shade: the pencil turned out to be matte berry with gold sparkles, and the lipstick was glossy and the color of diluted red wine.

Ksenia: Everything is simple here: Make Me is very similar to the color of the Ingrid Bergman rose - deep, winey, spicy. The spicy Rose Poivrée, an autumn rose with finely ground pepper, is perfect for it.

Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in Creatif + Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine

Moore: Last year's Rouge Allure Ink line of liquid matte lipsticks is a version of the trendiest texture from a major fashion house. Ink does not completely harden, does not dry the lips to death, as their matte counterparts do, and they apply well. The colors are brighter than Chanel usually likes, which is awfully nice; my favorites are dark Experimente and spring bright coral Creatif.

Ksenia: Here the first level color association worked: I look at this lipstick, and a red orange from Orange Sanguine literally rolls into my thoughts - fresh, juicy and much more durable on the skin than one might think upon first acquaintance.

LA Splash Studioshine Lip Luster in Catrina + Etat Libre d'Orange Rien

Moore: I was really looking forward to the launch of LA Splash in Russia - all beauty Instagram has long adored their liquid matte lipsticks and loose glitters. The brand has many conventional (and very beautiful!) Colors, but one of the most famous shades is the unusual brown-turquoise Catrina duochrome, which cannot be confused with anything.

Xenia: Emperor Furiosa goes to the party wearing a lipstick the color of gasoline film on the water and the perfume of the same diesel-punk aesthetic: Rien smells of exhaust fumes, leather and a sun-heated dashboard.

Maybelline Color Sensational Matte in Burgundy Blush + Serge Lutens Boxeuses

Moore: I really love Maybelline in general - in my opinion, they have many products that are not worse than their luxury counterparts - and their line of matte lipsticks in particular. She really turned out great; in the fall, a few more shades were added to the main line - including the red-brown Burgundy Blush. It is interesting precisely for its obvious brown note - wildly fashionable and at the same time not that often encountered.

Xenia: Burgundy Blush - like a trace of a very serious, full-bodied, tannin wine on the lips. This is most likely a Cabernet Sauvignon with plums, tobacco, leather and black berries - in short, the recognizable Boxeuses bouquet.

NYX Liquid Suede in Sway + Laboratorio Olfattivo Daimiris

Moore: My absolute love and the main shade of last summer is a cold lavender, very unusual, but surprisingly appropriate in any setting and outfit. And I am a big fan of the Liquid Suede formula - I love when lipstick does not become deadly matte and resemble a painted wall, but leaves a “lively” finish and volume.

Ksenia: Fragrances, like lipsticks, have an interesting finish or texture. Daimiris has irises, suede, a beautiful amber accord - it is the same as Sway: soft and velvety.

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist in C105 + Perfumer's Workshop Tearose

Moore: I usually go crazy over Make Up For Ever, but sometimes I want to remind myself and others that they have great base products too. For example, the recent Artist Rouge lineup has a lot of great nudes; my favorite is this one, balanced and supportive of any makeup.

Ksenia: In perfumery, there are also conditionally "nude" aromas: extremely natural - not in composition, but in the sense of natural sounding. Tea Rose is one of them - a large and fresh rose as it is, unadorned: dense ovary, green sepals, moist earth.

WYCON Cosmic Kisses in Freak Peony + YSL In Love Again

Moore: My 2016 opening is the daring Italian brand WYCON, which opened a store in Moscow last summer. Their giant assortment has a lot of cool stuff, so it's easy to get lost in there, but my personal hit is the Cosmic Kisses, which include matte liquid lipstick and pencil. Freak Peony's ripped-eyed neon fuchsia helped me fight winter, and now we welcome spring together.

Ksenia: Everything in In Love Again is pink: peonies, fresh cut of grapefruit, abstract but edible berries. If I had chosen a shade for his bottle, I would have taken not a light powder, but the same one from Freak Peony - straight from the spring garden.

Sysley Phyto-Lip Twist 15 Nut + Indult Manakara

Moore: Sisley has luxurious lip balms that are creamy, glossy and moisturizing like a balm. My favorite shades for a quick, natural make-up are from this series - for example, the pinkish peach Nuts.

Ksenia: Manakara is a live, not greasy lychee from a branch, not from a tin can, plus a beautiful garden rose. Somehow I would define this shade for myself: a living rose with a pearlescent tint of tropical fruits.
