We continue to collect expert opinions on the idea of erecting a monument to Ivan Susanin and Tsar Mikhail in the center of Kostroma. KOSTROMA. TODAY is the only Kostroma media outlet that publishes not only enthusiastic comments about the new project, which has already begun to split the city's public. We asked the authoritative representative of the tourism sector - the director of the travel company "Aquarius" Larisa Pukhacheva to comment on the idea of installing the monument. - When the conversation about the monument started again, I interviewed those whom I trust - tour guides from other cities of the Golden Ring, those who have been working in tourism for 30-40 years. And the attitude to this idea, frankly, is very ambiguous. 99 percent of the guides who work with tourists from all over the world, when they heard about the monument to the Tsar and the kneeling Susanin, said "no." As a person who professionally deals with domestic tourism, I was surprised by the very idea that the monument “will create a new tourist route”. And what - we have some kind of group of tourists once passed the Susaninskaya Square? If we are talking about a new tourist route, then it is logical to erect a monument in Domnino, in the Susaninsky district. The route is also not new, but there, perhaps, it will attract tourists. Now, an ensemble has formed in the center - the square looks very harmonious. And there is a dominant - a magnificent fire tower. The monument will block the view of this axis itself, of Prospekt Mira. In addition, in order to accommodate groups of tourists, it is obvious that it will need to be turned towards the center, towards Susaninskaya Square. And what will happen to the transport stop? In addition, I think many understand what will follow - they will want to remove the existing monument to Ivan Susanin, which is in poor condition. But if so, let's put it in order. This Ivan Susanin is recognizable, replicated on all books, photographs, postcards about Kostroma. And the most important thing is a normal, correct image of a folk hero. My personal opinion is that it is very controversial to erect a monument to a man of the people when he is on his knees. Especially now, in the current situation, when we see the mood of people. Any recreation should be harmonious and appropriate. For example, I like that we are reconstructing the cathedral ensemble of the Kostroma Kremlin. This will be correct even from the point of view that you can go upstairs, for tourists it will also be a kind of viewing platform. Historical justice is important, but one must understand that life is changing and one must be able to stop in time. Otherwise, you can walk to the recreation of wooden sidewalks. It is impossible to pile up monuments at every step. When I interviewed guides and tour operators, among the proposals was, for example, to make a small volumetric model in the metal of the entire central part of the city. It would include a watchtower, a guardhouse, Rows, current or lost monuments, the Alexander Chapel. Now it is customary to put such models in many cities, for example, in Yaroslavl. It will be, it seems to me, a compromise and an opportunity to show everyone the monuments of Kostroma. Such a model could have been placed in the place where the column of the monument once lay. Return the column there, and build a model next to it. It is good for tourists, and for the townspeople waiting for transport at the bus stop, it is informative. It seems important to me to say one more thing. Few people understand that it is the guides, not the officials, who have to listen to people's opinions about Kostroma. Blush, make excuses, explain that the city is poor. The guide's most beautiful story cannot cover up the fact that we have problems with roads, roofs, sidewalks, and toilets in the central part. People stumble and fall on the shattered, cracked and sagging paving slabs. We have Ryady and Kalancha in poor condition, big problems with parking for tourist transport, it is scary to drive tourists in the central park in the evening, starting in September. And instead of preserving heritage, we are erecting a monument. This is simply inappropriate now. It is also surprising that no one is asked. I heard that "representatives of the tourism industry" were said to be in favor - I wonder who was being interviewed if all my esteemed colleagues were against. The most, in my opinion, the sad opinion was expressed by one of the guides. He said that if the authorities decided to erect this monument, then our opinion does not matter, everything is useless. Also, the doctor of cultural studies Irina Yedoshina and the urbanist Vyacheslav Pravdzinsky also shared their opinion about "Susanin on his knees" with us.
