The well-groomed appearance of celebrities and the abundant use of Photoshop negatively affects the self-esteem of ordinary women. This is evidenced by the results of a study of the cosmetic brand Skin Proud, which leads the Daily Star.
Two thousand British women took part in the company's survey. It turned out that about 17 percent of women experience self-doubt due to the fact that they compare themselves to the stars. A quarter of the respondents admitted that they do not leave the house without makeup, because they do not feel beautiful enough.
“We were very surprised to learn that people are so concerned about the appearance of other people - even those they don't know. Obviously, celebrities and their supposedly perfect bodies and skin make us feel inferior,”commented Nora Zukauskaite, Head of Marketing at Skin Proud.
In addition, the study found that 28 percent of women are under pressure from society's tough demands on their appearance. Another 14 percent suffer from low self-esteem due to the fact that their face in real life is different from what is captured in photographs posted on social networks.
In addition, most of the participants in the experiment admitted that they most often retouch facial skin flaws in mobile applications. At the same time, 16 percent said they enlarged their lips, and every tenth woman reduced their nose.
In June, it was reported that in Russia, since the beginning of the 90s, ideas about beauty have changed and new trends in plastic surgery have appeared. Currently, patients prefer naturalness. “The fashion for a seventh breast size, for ever larger breasts, lips, and doll-like face shapes has outlived its usefulness. Everyone understood that, in particular, big breasts are unaesthetic and ugly,”said star plastic surgeon Hayk Babayan.
