1. The principle of "cabbage"

“If you go somewhere for one day just for a walk, where there is a warm house where you can warm up, it’s not so critical,” says Robert Valeev. "If your goal is to climb a mountain where snow may fall, which will make you walk back for a long time, you need to carefully prepare."

2. Keep your head warm

No matter what Alexander Suvorov says, a headdress on a winter hike is a guarantee of your well-being. “It is necessary that both the neck and the head were closed,” says Robert Valeev. - The jacket should have a very nice hood that closes tightly so that nothing gets inside. You also need a face mask."

A good option for winter hiking is the balaclava. Its merits are known to skiers and snowboarders. It perfectly warms, and, if necessary, allows you to protect your face from snow and wind.

3. Travel with the right company

If you've never hiked before, you should start by hiking with a professional companion. “Join commercial groups that lead hikes,” advises Robert Valeev. - They usually give equipment, an instructor comes with the group. Naturally, you should not contact the first company you come across, because in Russia this direction is just beginning to develop, and many work without a license. Read the reviews, pay attention to those who often and for a long time drive people."

4. The principle of "early rise"

5. Collect your personal first aid kit

Even if you are planning a short hike in an area not far from civilization, still take a first-aid kit with you. It will not make your load too heavy, but no one is safe from unexpected situations on the route. “For hiking, the same car first aid kit is suitable, which allows you to provide first aid on the spot,” says Robert Valeev. - You need to be able to stop the bleeding, fix the wound, and then transport the victim to the nearest point, where he will be helped and an ambulance will be called. The first-aid kit should contain hemostatic drugs, bandages, and pain relievers."

When compiling a first aid kit, remember your individual characteristics. “Take pills from the head if you suffer from migraines, from the stomach - if this is your weak point,” advises Robert Valeev.

Winter hiking uses more calories, so be sure to bring something to eat. You don't have to take water, but a hot drink will come in handy. “It's better to take a thermos with tea to warm up,” says Robert Valeev.
