Candidate of Medical Sciences and Professor Alexander Poleev told Vechernyaya Moskva about what is considered to be the criteria of female beauty today, and what to do for those who do not consider themselves beautiful. - Why do you think only 13% of Russian women consider themselves beautiful? - Research is pointless. A lot of women under the age of 17 feel ugly. This is due to the disorder of the body schema. Then it passes and they seem very beautiful to themselves. This is evidenced by the growing number of nude photos on Instagram or social networks. Moreover, there are obviously many poorly coordinated girls among them, which, however, does not prevent them from filming themselves in candid poses and with such pride that they undoubtedly consider themselves attractive.

- What are the criteria for female beauty today? - Beauty is a loose concept. But in general, it seems to us beautiful that our ancestors provided good survival. These are long legs, strong, regular facial features, good proportions, waist. Do not forget about the breast, which attracts men, and the sufficient width of the hips to bear the fetus. Short-legged, even if the legs are beautiful, are still considered ugly, this is purely subconscious, from ancestors. The idea of beauty did not take shape today, but in those days when our ancestors were looking for a girlfriend who would have a better chance of surviving. No wonder the French say that "the beauty of a woman is her legs."

- What can you say about the unnatural standards of beauty that are in vogue today? Artificial breasts, botox lips, colored lenses. Is this able to raise women's self-esteem?

- This is within the framework of what we talked about. Beauty is biological expediency. Plump lips are a sign of sensuality, so women make them for themselves. As for the chest, everything is clear. Healthy breasts are a sign of good hormone concentration and good development. From a biological point of view, it provides good feeding. They are trying to adapt to this biological standard of beauty. As for the lenses, it is believed that black eyes are a sign of temperament. In addition, there is a certain paradox to which science cannot give an answer. We all know that the most temperamental women are short, black-eyed and black-haired ladies. But men outwardly like blue-eyed blondes, which puts not only science in a difficult position, but also women. They want to be long-legged, blue-eyed, model-looking blondes. So many women have been thinking for years what lenses to put on them and what image to reproduce. But this is just a search for success in men.

- What should be given to a woman to make her feel beautiful? - You are raising philosophical questions. Different women need to be given different things. Someone needs to add in appearance, someone needs to add intelligence, interest and ability to communicate, others need to add self-esteem. Someone, on the contrary, to reduce it. In general, the inadequacy of self-esteem is a big and terrible problem. - Does fashionable feminism influence the attitude of women towards themselves? - Of course, feminism has a great impact on women. In general, this is a positive trend, I would say national liberation, with a woman as the main nationality. Historically, ladies have always been oppressed by stronger men. But let's say, 46 years ago, a successful and unmarried madame was a "fifth grade" person. This is no longer the case today. A woman is not judged by the presence of a husband. Feminism was born out of the struggle for the right to vote. But even among feminists there are quite destructive personalities, as elsewhere. - Is it possible that in 20 years the role model in society will change? Will a man take feminine features and a woman masculine? - Well, not so straightforward. Women can take on some masculine qualities and vice versa. But these qualities can be modified. Also, this process is very slow. But of course the relationship is changing, what was before is now different. Many women are already earning more than men, and this boosts self-esteem. The age of marriage has also shifted - many do not consider childbirth and marriage as a priority, now the main thing is to develop as a person.
