The Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Russia issued a theological conclusion that Muslims should not marry representatives of other religions. Ekaterina Lakhova, chairman of the Russian Women's Union, called such a decision stupid. In her opinion, if people love each other, you should not burden them with any prohibitions on the basis of religion.
“Some kind of stupidity. Lord, Russia is such a multinational state. And how many, I apologize, cases when a Jew married a Russian or a Russian married a Chuvash. In general, many marriages are mixed! What are we talking about?! Those who came up with the ban are people too. And, unfortunately, they are also wrong , - said the Daily Storm Ekaterina Lakhova.
“I am at a loss. How can you stop people if a Tatar fell in love with a Russian, and a Russian Tatar? If they love each other, first of all they should have respect and patience , - added the head of the Union of Women of Russia.
Religious scholar Roman Silantyev noted that there are four schools of law in Sunni Islam. Three of them prohibit marriage with non-Muslim women, and one, the most widespread in Russia - Hanafi, allowed.
“It turns out that the theological conclusion of the DUM RF contradicts the school to which almost all of their believers belong. Moreover, it pretends to be of some kind of general Islamic character, and this is just as abnormal as if the Orthodox Church began to make statements on behalf of all Christians”, - said the Islamic scholar to Interfax. Silantyev drew attention to the fact that the topic of marriages with gentiles in Russia is very serious, since many Muslims here have married Christians.
In a statement, the SAM indicates that "interfaith marriages are unacceptable and are possible only in certain isolated cases by the decision of the local mufti." Only he, in the opinion of representatives of the Spiritual Administration, can resolve the situation, taking into account all the circumstances of a particular case.
"The Council of Ulema has decided: interfaith marriages, in particular with representatives of the People of the Book, are unacceptable on the territory of Russia," - reads in the conclusion.
The document also notes that the similarity of spouses in matters of religion and spirituality is an important condition for their happy life together. "A family built initially incorrectly, not only cannot be a source of support and inspiration for all its members, but, on the contrary, becomes the factor that even the existing potential nullifies, burdens and constrains", - believe in the DUM.
The text says that "the overwhelming majority of authoritative scholars of Islam, including theologians of all four madhhabs, expressed the opinion that it is undesirable for a Muslim to marry a woman from the People of the Book."
