Cynologists do not advise dog owners to treat paws of animals with a sanitizer, as this can affect the health of pets. This was announced by the President of the Russian Cynological Federation Vladimir Golubev.

According to him, ethanol is part of the disinfectant. If the dog licks the paws treated with a sanitizer, it can be poisoned or get alcohol intoxication.

In addition, disinfectants can lead to pet allergies or dry paws, the dog handler notes.

- Sanitizers very dry the skin because of the alcohol contained in them, and cracks and ulcers can form on the pads of the paws, because of this, the dog will begin to experience pain when walking, - quotes the city news agency "Moscow" Golubev.

The cynologist advised, instead of treating with a sanitizer, to thoroughly rinse the dogs' paws with water and special hygiene products.

- After the walk, remove the protective ammunition and clean it. Then wipe dirt and saliva from the eyes and nose of the animal with a damp cloth that does not contain ethanol or with a towel. After that, start washing your paws in water and a mild soapy solution, paying attention to the areas under the nails and between the toes. If the paws are very dirty, you can use a soft brush, - explained the dog handler.

He added that if there are wounds or freshly cut claws on the dog's body, the dog's paws can be treated with chlorhexidine.
