In early 2020, Alves came out as a transgender woman and has since begun the process of feminizing her appearance. She reshaped her face, removed the Adam's apple, enlarged her breasts and hips, and takes hormones. "Living Barbie" will have three more surgeries, after which she dreams of quitting plastic surgery - but in the meantime she continues to visit a beautician who works with her appearance.
