Artem Kovalev, who previously trained at Khrustalny, moved to Angels Plushenko together with his coach Alexander Volkov in the 2018/19 season. In the 2019/20 season, the 17-year-old skater won two stages of the Russian Cup, among others ahead of Makar Ignatov, Alexander Samarin, Peter Gumennik, Evgeny Semenenko. At the December championship of Russia, Kovalev became only eighth.
