Unshaven armpits seem to many to be one of the worst taboos. It would seem that a modern girl can do anything with her body - except for the right to independently decide the question of her hairline. So one of the main questions of our time is "Shave or not shave?"

The answer is quite simple.

- If you shave your armpits just because you like the feeling of smooth skin - go on, this is a great occasion.

- If you shave under pressure from society and out of fear of what other people might think of you, it may be time to give up the razor. Just for a little while.

Research shows that more and more women are making these choices - which means that imperfect smooth skin is slowly becoming the new norm. By the way, it's not all that new (the obsession with hair removal was not that long ago) and turned out to be not the most viable idea.

Back in 2013, 95% of women between the ages of 16 and 24 had their armpits shaved or depilated. But already in 2016 this number dropped to 77%. Sales of hair removal products have also dropped - which means times are changing (and gradually getting hairier).

Some researchers see the reasons for such changes in the diversification of beauty standards, someone sees dependence in the fact that fewer and fewer women want to injure their skin with shaving and depilation.

Why stop shaving your armpits? (at least for the sake of experiment)

1. Saving time. Yes, shaving your underarms doesn't take as long as shaving your legs, for example. But even the 5 minutes that you spend every few days on this add up to a decent number of days in a lifetime. Now honestly answer yourself - don't you have a more interesting lesson for which you could spend this time?

2. Saving money. There is a "pink tax", due to which women's products that match men's characteristics, for some reason, turn out to be more expensive. But even if you choose men's machines or disposable razors, then a very pleasant amount accumulates in a year, which, like time, can be spent on something more useful.

3. Rethinking your image. Think - shaved armpits really make up such a large part of your personality and your image that you can't refuse it? If so, then shaving right now should stop being your priority in life - because learning to love yourself, anyone, is much more important.

4. Rethinking your relationships with other people. We bet you have a friend or acquaintance about whom you think, "Well, he definitely won't like it"? But is the opinion of this person so important to you that there is a need to do something unpleasant and spend time and money on it? And if a person stops loving you just because of body hair - do you really need this person?

5. Impact on health. No matter how much they talk about the "harmful" bacteria that grow in unshaven armpits (sounds like the beginning of a horror movie), shaving is more harmful than beneficial. See for yourself - bacteria will appear anyway and will be more than safe. But using a razor, every time you arrange a very delicate and sensitive armpit skin, a forced rough peeling. That is, you are removing the layer of skin that is not yet ready for exfoliation. Hence - irritation, coarsening, darkening of the skin and discomfort.

A favorite argument of the advocates of "smoothness" is "it's unhygienic!" But it is easy to fight it: it is enough to remember that it is not the hair that produces sweat. And hygiene products also work not on the hair, but on the sweat glands - so a good deodorant works equally well on both shaved and unshaven armpits.

Most modern women are almost disgusted at the thought of hair on a woman's body. But if we're talking about self-love, why not start by accepting something as natural and normal as body hair? In addition, it is unlikely that somewhere you can find a woman who enjoys shaving and depilation. So why continue to worry about a subtle enough detail that doesn't even make us happy?

Remember only that no one and nothing should tell you what to do with your body: in this matter, you should be guided solely by common sense and your own feelings.
