An increase in new cases of coronavirus infection is recorded in Russia every day. Along with this, the number of deaths from COVID-19 is also growing.

According to the latest data from the operational headquarters, St. Petersburg ranks second after Moscow in the number of patients with coronavirus infection. There, over the past day, 3697 new cases were revealed.

However, one cannot but worry about the increase in deaths from COVID-19. It is noted that 85 patients with coronavirus have died in St. Petersburg over the past 24 hours. In total, 129,604 cases of infection and 5,517 deaths from COVID-19 were detected in the city during the pandemic, 73,191 people recovered. Such data indicate that the death rate from coronavirus in St. Petersburg reaches about 4.25%.

In November, the number of those who recovered exceeded 60 thousand, and the number of deaths - 5 thousand, Fontanka reported earlier. At the same time, the mortality rate, according to the newspaper, was 7.7%, which is four times higher than in Moscow.

Recall that 26,402 new cases of coronavirus were detected in Russia per day. The total number of patients with COVID-19 in the country today reaches 2,322,056. The maximum daily increase in new patients, as before, was observed in Moscow. There, over the past day, 6524 new cases were identified. After the capital, the list is followed by St. Petersburg and the Moscow region.

Earlier, the Russians were warned of an increase in deaths from other diseases during the pandemic. “In the future, we may face excess mortality for reasons not related to COVID-19,” said Russian Deputy Minister of Health Oleg Gridnev.
