Every year, during two world famous contests, the most beautiful girls of the year are chosen. One contest is Miss World and the second is Miss Universe. Many people often confuse these contests and do not see the difference between them. But in fact, these are two completely different events.
The Miss World pageant was founded in 1951 by London-based advertising agent Eric Morley. After his death in 2000, the competition was run by his wife Julia. The British television channel Channel 5 is also one of the owners.
Miss Universe was founded in 1952 by the swimwear manufacturer Catalina Swimwear, then moved under the wing of Procter & Gamble. And since 1996, the well-known Donald Trump has become its owner, together with the NBC television company.

The geography of these contests also differs: if Miss Universe is held at home, in the United States, then Miss World often “travels”: for example, this year the contest was held in China.

You might think that the essence of the contests is the same: beautiful girls parade around the stage, and then the most beautiful of them is chosen. But this is not so, the contests are different. The main difference is that for some time now there has been no fashion show in swimsuits in the Miss World competition. This was done in order to take the contestants and winners more seriously.
Nevertheless, Miss World participants must be taller than 172 centimeters, in Miss Universe there are no such strict restrictions on height. Moreover, Miss World participants must know at least one foreign language and be able to maintain a conversation. In general, this competition is more aimed at identifying the talents and skills of the participants than at their external data, although they also play a certain role.

Why is the intellectual component so important for the Miss World contest? The fact is that the competition promotes the charity campaign Beauty with a Purpose, and the contestants are the ambassadors of this movement.
After winning Miss World, the participant receives a crown worth 16 thousand dollars and a cash prize of 280 thousand dollars, but they are immediately transferred to charity. In addition, she is paid a rent for an apartment in London for a year, and the winner must participate in the organization's charitable actions.
The winners of the Miss Universe win "richer": two crowns - a diamond and a pearl, pay rent for apartments in New York, study at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts, certificates for the services of cosmetologists, dentists, hairdressers and photographers, and also provide free cosmetics and clothing.
