Elena Vasilieva graduated from the Moscow Medical Academy. I. M. Sechenov. He has been practicing aesthetic medicine since 1999. In 2007, she founded the Belle Allure Beauty Institute in Moscow. At one of the congresses in Paris, I heard about threads made of polylactic acid, realized that this novelty is a real breakthrough in cosmetology, and got the idea to bring threads to Russia. I signed a contract and made sure that this drug is absolutely necessary in our Russian market. In 2011, the threads were officially registered in the Russian Federation. At the moment, Elena is the head coach of thread lifting specialists not only in Russia and the CIS countries, but also around the world.

Today we decided to talk with Elena Vasilyeva about a topic beloved by many representatives of the fair sex - ideal lips.

- Elena, what are the aesthetic problems associated with lips, and what solutions does your clinic offer?

- I want to say right away that “aesthetic problems” are not always problems. Natural beauty will always be in vogue. Yes, of course, lips can be different, and sometimes girls and women want some changes. But my personal opinion is that what is natural is beautiful. The Belle Allure Clinic, among all other medical services, also offers cosmetic services related to lip correction. These are thin lips, lip asymmetry, correction of changes acquired with age - when we age, the skin around the lips also changes not for the better, and it is the perioral zone that often gives out our age; volumetric inferiority of one lip in relation to the other - normally our lower lip should be plump than the upper one, by about one third. But sometimes it happens that either they are the same, or, on the contrary, the upper one is larger - this can be a congenital feature or overcorrection with drugs, an incorrectly performed contour plasty procedure or some kind of surgical intervention, and so on.

- How to choose the right shape and volume if there are indications for correction?

- We all know that there are certain proportions of the face, and based on these proportions, I approach lip correction. Normally, our face is divided into an upper, middle and lower third, and these thirds should be approximately the same. As for the lips, this is the lower third of the face. The ideal proportions for the lower third are above and below the lip line. Before proceeding with the procedure, we make sure to evaluate the proportions of the face using certain lines and points. We draw these lines, show the patient and discuss how best to make the lips look harmonious and fit into the face. Sometimes there are requests that you have to refuse, if in the end the required result looks inharmonious. We also focus on the typical parameters of ideal lips. Let's say the horizontal size of the lips should ideally be in line with the perpendicular from the inner surface of the iris. Therefore, we can round the mouth a little, and it will fit very harmoniously into the facial features. As for the vertical dimensions of the lips, I have already said - this is a ratio of one to two, that is, the lower lip should be the same size as the upper two. This is the ideal. Also, ideally, there should be a clear outline. As we age, the contour tends to become blurry, and we may hear complaints about lipstick spreading, for example. It is curious that this is not always a problem of age, sometimes of a profession. For those who speak a lot at their work, especially in English, or smoke a lot, a so-called purse-string mouth is formed, the contour becomes blurred. We can also help such patients. Another ideal lip is the filterrum columns - these are two parallel lines that run from the protruding parts of the upper lip to the base of the nose.

The upper and lower lips have anatomically convex areas, they are laid in the womb. Normally, these are three specific points on the upper lip, and two on the lower lip. Angelina Jolie's lips are a prime example of anatomically perfect lips. She just has all the convex parts that should be on perfect lips.

- Now the main fear of those who dream of enlarging their lips is turning into a "duck" after visiting a beautician. Why can patients still face such a correction result?

- Lips have several layers of tissue. There are often complications, when everything seems to be done correctly, the technique is good, but the gel moves over the upper lip, and such beads are formed in the form of a mustache above the upper lip. This suggests that the device was inserted incorrectly, it was inserted very deep into the muscle, because one of the layers of the lips is muscle tissue. And the gel begins to move, because the muscles are pushing it out. And when the gel lies correctly, in the submucous layer, it looks very beautiful and harmonious.

You also need to pay attention to the blood supply to the lips. This is the most sensitive and most delicate part, which is due to innervation and blood supply. Certain vessels pass here, and this is very important for correction so as not to get any complications. Innervation is the nerve endings that pass here, only a competent specialist knows about their location. With the wrong technique and the choice of the drug, we can get unwanted complications. We often hear that hyaluronic acid is used for lip augmentation, but it comes in different densities, different viscosities, and different times in the tissues. For example, a drug of the same density is used for the contour, and a different density is needed for the lips themselves.

It is also very important to pay attention to the bite when carrying out lip correction. Sometimes, when there is an incorrect bite or the absence of any teeth, the position of the mouth changes. And there are times when a patient comes with imperfect lips and the bite is far from perfect, and then only correction with a filler cannot correct the situation.

The position of the mouth is equally important. Which, of course, everyone has their own. If our mouth is located at the same distance from the tip of the nose and chin, then we can easily correct both lips, and our beautiful facial proportions will be preserved, everything will look harmonious. If our mouth is close to the nose, the distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip is very short, then if we enlarge the upper lip, it will look ugly, since the already small distance will be further reduced. In these cases, we will work with the columns of the filter room along the entire length. And it so happens that the mouth, on the contrary, is closer to the chin. As a rule, this is typical for older patients, when all tissues move downward. In such cases, we correct the contour of the lower lip, increase the size of the upper lip, and also correct the columns of the filterum, but not along the entire length, but only the upper part, in order to slightly raise the upper lip, twist and thereby reduce the distance between it and the base of the nose. …

- Has the request for the shape and volume of lips changed in recent years?

- In terms of volume, yes, it has changed. There should be a measure in everything. I believe that, nevertheless, the doctor should reserve the right to explain to the patient what, why and how it is best for him to do or not. The patient simply sees beautiful lips, not understanding how it all happens anatomically. And when we tell and explain all this at a consultation, as a rule, most of them agree with a specialist.

- There is an opinion that if you started to adjust the volume of the lips, then you will have to do it all the time, because the skin stretches after the procedure. Is it so?

- It is not true. On the contrary, the introduction of the drug is additionally a care, moisturizing of the skin of the lips. In addition, the specialist will never do much in the primary procedure. Sometimes there are very thin lips, and you understand that a large volume of fillers will be required, but I will never do it in one visit. After all, it is necessary for the drug to settle down, the patient gets used to it, see how comfortable he is. And only after a month or two I invite the patient for a second visit, and we decide whether a further increase is needed or not. If the patient still wants to increase, then the gel is applied to the gel - this is the so-called sandwich effect, and the declared duration of the drugs action of 9-12 months, as a rule, increases to 2-3 years - we stimulated the production of our hyaluronic acid so well. True, there are situations when you just want to update your lips a little, revive the red border of the lips. And in this case, too, there are drugs that are also stimulation of the production of their hyaluronic acid.

- Can any lips be corrected?

- There are congenital deformities such as cleft lip where surgery is required. Miracles do not happen, but I approach each case individually. And if I understand that I cannot help, then I say so.

- Is it possible to combine lip augmentation with permanent makeup?

- It is possible to combine - and there is no dependence and sequence, because the permanent is introduced into the higher layers.

- What are the restrictions before and after the procedure?

- We do not give recommendations on preliminary preparation in absentia - this is all discussed at a consultation, because you cannot find out everything about a person by phone, an exception is if there are any particular health features. After the procedure, you should not drink hot drinks in the first hours, we recommend limiting kissing for three days, active sun and solarium - in the first few days.
